Pastors for North Carolina Children (PNCC) is hosting a Prayer Vigil for EDUCATION.

We invite you to wear “red for ed” and join us! Clergy dress (collar, stole, robe, etc) encouraged.
This Prayer Vigil is Interfaith and Ecumenical. All who share an interest in ensuring children have what they need to flourish, including a strong public education, are invited to join in. If you are a faith leader in NC and have interest in leading a moment of prayer during this service, contact Pastors for NC Children at PastorsForNCchildren@gmail.com.
The event will start with a brief press conference led by our coalition partners, Every Child NC. If possible, please arrive 5-10 minutes early to be in position for the 9am Every Child NC coalition press conference as the Vigil will start immediately afterwards, and we would love to have a strong presence standing behind the press conference speakers for visual support.
PARKING
We recommend parking in the Wilmington Street deck (117 S. Wilmington Street) or in the pay lot at the corner of Jones and Wilmington Streets (enter from Jones Street).

August 31, 2022 is the start of the next case for Leandro at the NC Supreme Court for the State’s compliance with the Leandro Plan.
The plan is a court-ordered schedule of funding and policy measures to ensure NC public schools are meeting the state constitution’s minimum standard of a “sound basic education” for every child.
The Leandro case was filed in 1994, and for decades, children around the state have been deprived of the educational resources they are owed.
We are gathering
-
- to lament the loss of support services and learning opportunities that would have otherwise benefitted millions of children – for each of the 28 years since the Leandro case began.
- to recognize conditions in public schools are worse now than they were when Leandro began in 1994
- to call on the State Legislature to fulfill its constitutional and moral duties to the children of North Carolina – to give every student what they need to succeed and flourish at school.
This event is Sponsored by Pastors for NC Children as part of the Every Child NC Coalition’s Leandro Week of Action.
