March 18 and 25: North Carolina Public Education Matters: Vouchers and Advocacy for People of Faith

On March 18, Lynn Edmonds, the director of outreach and engagement for Public Schools First NC, will present data illustrating the decline in funding for N.C. public schools in this century and its impact. She will give us a history of the voucher program, numbers of students and private schools involved, requirements for participating schools and students, and the on-the-ground impact on funding for public schools.

On March 25, Rev. Suzanne Parker Miller, the executive director of Pastors for North Carolina Children, will speak to reasons people of faith should be invested in public education, the work of her organization, lessons they have learned across time in their advocacy on behalf of children, and effective strategies ordinary citizens may use in reaching out to legislators in support of public education.

Please join us for a fellowship meal from 5:15 to 6 PM. (Meals cost $12/person,  but you may come after the meal if you would prefer not to eat.)

From 6 to 7 PM on most Wednesdays, following announcements and prayer, we engage various topics of faith with speakers, panels, and group discussion. Please see our youth and children’s ministry pages for information about concurrent programming for these ages.
